The top hardscape projects in the United States and Canada were honored on October 17, 2019 during an awards ceremony at the annual Hardscape North America (HNA) trade show at the Kentucky Exposition Center. We are proud to announce our company was recognized as a winner in the Natural Stone category, for a 2,100 sq. ft. Chilton limestone outdoor terrace which integrated a heated jacuzzi, Roman bath, fire pit and watercraft storage area.

In 2012 our client coordinated with neighbors on a private beach and breakwater installation to allow easy access to Lake Michigan. After the installation of enormous stone boulders and semi truckloads of sand, our client’s property needed a major restoration. Extensive amounts of soil and grading work were required to remediate the impact of heavy construction equipment. This posed several problems as the lake dictated the level of grading that could be accomplished. After Nature’s Perspective completed the initial restoration, our client desired a space that could complement the natural surroundings of Lake Michigan and function as an area for outdoor recreation and entertaining.

Shumaker Design & Associates designed the Roman bath, outdoor spa & fire pit, and mason David Douglas constructed these elements.

Warmly hued Chilton limestone, from Eden-Valders Stone, is a perfect complement to the natural surroundings of the lake. Rockfaced limestone steps repeat the ruggedness of the shoreline boulders. A crazy quilt pattern with no gaps larger than a quarter-inch beautifies the space but also allows boats to be wheeled across this area, over a ramp that addresses the grade change and to a storage area paved with loosely laid limestone sited close to the house for an unobstructed lake view.

Our clients are thrilled to have a beautiful space that not only incorporates natural beauty but also serves multiple functions.
