It’s been an especially rainy April in the garden! The silver lining to the extra rain? More time to consider ideas for summer landscaping projects. In this edition of Nature’s notes, we’ll add some fresh color to the warmer months by exploring popular blooming flowers for the spring and summer. We’ll also take a look back at an award-winning yard revival project that take advantage of spring and summer foliage and an expansive outdoor yard.

What’s Blooming in April?
April brings fresh color and energy to the garden, with blooming trees, shrubs, and perennials creating a vibrant spring landscape. Ornamental trees like Royal Raindrops Crabapple, Magnolia, Redbud, and Serviceberry provide early blooms and multi-season interest, while shrubs such as Karen’s Azalea, Deutzia, Forsythia, and Viburnum add depth, color, and fragrance. Perennials like Pink Frost Hellebore, and Woodland Phlox complete the look with low-growing color and pollinator appeal, creating a layered, dynamic garden all season long.
Project Spotlight: Evanston Tudor Revival
We were excited to help refresh the property surrounding a historic Tudor-style home in Evanston. Our clients were interested in dynamic new plantings, a grand front yard entrance and an expanded backyard entertainment space that included two static charcoal Weber grills. What began as a patchy landscape was transformed into a gorgeous landscape that perfectly complimented the home’s classic aesthetics.
